Friends of Hopetoun Park and Parwan Gorge is a community based Landcare group, that joined forces in 2020 with the former Parwan Landcare Group.

We are located alongside the Werribee River between Melton Reservoir to the north and Bacchus Marsh township to the south.  37°42'16.0"S 144°29'44.0"E

Our Vision

To create a green wildlife corridor alongside the Werribee River, adjacent to Hopetoun Park and Parwan Gorge. That can contribute to the resilience of the landscape in a changing climate. Provide habitat for wildlife and recreation areas for the community to enjoy.

This group acknowledges the traditional owners Wadawurrung and Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation and their continuing connection to this land, water and it’s community. We pay our respects to traditional owners, their cultures and elders past and present.

This region also has its own species of eucalyptus, Werribee Blue Box tree (Eucalyptus baueriana ssp. thalassina) which only occurs along the Werribee River and its tributaries. In 2011, the ‘Werribee Blue-Box’ was officially recognised by the National Herbarium of Victoria. Classified as endangered under the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act, these magnificent trees, grow from 3 to 12 metres. We are indeed fortunate to have a number of these ancient specimens surviving in this area. (See our photo gallery)

Our logo the Werribee Blue box serves as an important reminder as to why we need to protect this environment. Not only will your commitment benefit this community, it will leave a lasting legacy for our future generations to come.

Our Friends Group welcomes you to connect with like minded people who have a deep appreciation for our natural environment.

We invite you to join our members from all backgrounds and ages, who offer a safe environment with respect to build mutual trust and collaborate.

With your help, we can make a real difference to this environment and achieve common goals, together with our partners.

“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it
