At a special recognition event on Saturday 17 May 2014, Parks Victoria made presentation to the Friends of Werribee Gorge & Long Forest Mallee for 30 years of volunteer service.
About 50 volunteers from the Friends were joined by Friends of Brisbane Ranges, Friends of Macedon, Steiglitz Historical Society and Back to Steiglitz members. All volunteers within the Western Basalt District (Parks Victoria Management Areas: Bellarine, You Yangs/Serendip, Bacchus Marsh, Macedon and Creswick) were invited to attend. The venue was the Bert Boardmans reserve at Steiglitz with morning tea and lunch provided.
Tony English, Parks Victoria Western Basalt District Manager, presented volunteer awards and spoke about the various achievements of the groups. Following lunch, Colin Smithyman lead a tour around the town - made more interesting as all the historic buildings where open due to Steiglitz being involved with the Golden Plains Shire Heritage trail. Both Steiglitz volunteer groups were available in each venue to assist visitors with information.
Friends of Macedon also received certificate for 20 years volunteer service.
